VICTORIA FALLS
The beautiful waterfalls between Zimbabwe and Zambia are named after the queen of England, Queen
Victoria( 1837). These Water-Falls are one of the 7 wonders of the world. Thousands of tourists flock to
witness this wonder every year. Next to these Water-falls on the Zimbabwean side stands the elegant
Elephant Hills Hotel. The food is superb, with a touch of Queen Victoria’s hand. Come din with queens, Elephant Hills, the place to be.
ROBBEN ISLAND
This used to be a prison for highly problematic black activist during the apartheid era. They were
incarcerated here and given hand chisels to break stones. The late iconic statesman Nelson Mandela spent
18 years on this barren island breaking stones. This island has become a very popular tourist destination.
Former USA President Bill Clinton, Barak Obama, and Ophra Winfred among others have also visited this
site. This island has become a source of inspiration to many young people. “Where there is life, there is
hope” is an inspirational tagline associated with this island.
KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
This park is the largest in South Africa situated in the province of both Mpumalanga and Limpopo. It is best
known for having most of the wild animal lives in Africa. It has also the “BIG Five “animals in the jungle
namely, The Buffalo, The Lion, The Elephant, the Rhino, and the leopard.
BLYDE RIVER CANYON
It is an absolutely stunning forest about 400 km north of Johannesburg. Its gorges, valleys, mountains and
the river represents nature at its best. The aroma of leaves and flower fragrance, the chipping birds, the
distant laughter of hyenas, and the sound of crickets muffled by the waterfalls adds to the beauty of this
forest. The air is pure and invigorating. Come and connect with yourself here….. Blyde River Canyon, the
spot to be at.
SOWETO /VILAKAZI STREET
Is a township 15km from the Johannesburg City Centre. It is famous for being the residence of many South
African pre-independence political activists. Nelson Mandela, Winnie Madikizela Mandela, Arch Bishop
Desmond Tutu, and many more grew up in this township. Their houses are now historic political sites. The
uprising in June 1976 started here in this township. The spot where an activist by the name of Hector
Petersen was gunned down is just about some 100 metres away from the house of Nelson Mandela. This
site was declared a national political historic site. On this piece of ground now stands a museum named
after him. Soweto is now an exceptionally peaceful society and a tourist hub.
CRADLE OF HUMAN KIND
This is one of the spectacular places some 50km away from Johannesburg City Centre. It is also known as
the Center of human origins. The local people prefer calling it Maropeng. Here human skeletons believed
to be the oldest in the world were found dating some millions of years in age. A tour in these caves is a
mind opener and undoubtedly unlocks the answer to the question” where do human beings come from?”
LESEDI VILLAGE
Lesedi Cultural Village is a tourist village that celebrates the cultural traditions of several
different peoples of Southern Africa. It reproduces traditional dwellings and offers
demonstrations of dances and other cultural activities. Visitors are also invited to taste the
local beer, brewed on-site, share local food, enjoy traditional dances, meet village elders and
learn how local arts and crafts are produced. Most of the objects produced in the village are
for sale, along with items sourced from further afield in Free State province.
